Learn How to Be Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

We all know what it’s like to be out of our comfort zone. For some of us, going out our comfort zone means speaking in front of a crowd or getting on a roller coaster. While others stay within their comfort zone, I encourage those around me to venture outside of it.

You learn so much about yourself when you cross the line of comfort and healthy discomfort. (I specifically say “healthy” discomfort because I don’t encourage people to put themselves in mental and physical danger.) In fact, I’ve learned both new skills and more about who I am by venturing outside of my comfort zone.

The Staple White Shirt

Holly Phan Photography

Why should you  have a staple white shirt in your closet? Isn't it predictable? Or just the standard? Well let me tell you why. If you work, intern, or go to school, chances are you come across days where you have to dress for business or want to wear a more polished look. A tailored white shirt is versatile and can be worn in many different occasions. And rather than thinking of a white shirt as predictable, think of it as dependable. White goes with pretty much everything- navy, jean, dark green, etc. It's versatility and dependability make a white shirt a staple in your closet.

I've found that over the years my wardrobe has diversified in textures, sifted through fabrics, and been enriched with varying lengths. With the chiffon, silk, knits, cardigans, and sweaters, a white shirt actually stands out in my wardrobe. Its brings a clean, structured essence to an everyday look.

New Hair for the New Year!

With a New Year around the corner comes a refreshing wave of new things to look forward to. Many of us are setting new resolutions for the New Year. Other of us are going for a new look. For the New Year, I'm embracing new hair! I'm trading my traditional long, long locks for a sportier, shorter, textured look. And I'm sharing my experience with you and celebrating the New Year with a Giveaway you don't want to miss! (Details at the end of the post).
To create my new look, I went to Hunter at Seven Salon at Bellevue Square Mall. I actually went to middle and high school with Hunter. I've watched her become an incredible hair stylist over these past few years. So when the opportunity arose to collaborate with her, I was thrilled and couldn't wait to work with her the next time I was home in Seattle.

From start to finish, Hunter was incredible to work with and I had a wonderful time at Seven Salon!
The moment I walked into Seven Salon, I experienced the warm, but exciting atmosphere. As I checked in I was offered complimentary water and coffee. I was led through coat check and into Hunter's styling station.
Hunter and I first went through a brief consultation. We discussed what current products I used for my hair and went through an evaluation of the health of my hair. I also learned at this time how to determine which way best suited parting your hair. And I shared with her a few pictures I snagged from Pinterest of some haircuts I might be interested in pursuing. Together, we decided I would go for a much shorter look with a blunt length but plenty of layers to add natural some natural volume.

(Before Cut)
Hunter took me through a shampoo and deep conditioner process. I felt revitalized and relaxed after Hunter worked the conditioner deep into the roots of my hair. Here's the three products she used:
We then moved into the haircut. One thing I loved about Hunter right after the first snip, she took a step back and made sure I was comfortable with the length. She reassured me and encouraged me to truly go for the shorter length I had showed her at the beginning. And I'm so happy I listened to her and went for the shorter look because I love it! After the cut, Hunter styled my hair with beachy waves. She showed me how to take a flat iron, twist it once, run down the section of the hair, and twist the hair with your finger to let it cool. She finished my look by spritzing my hair with Beach Spray.
At every step of the way, I learned something new about hair health or styling with Hunter. She truly cares about delivering a look, cut, and product that work best for your hair. I can't wait to rock my new hair into the New Year!
