The Staple White Shirt

Holly Phan Photography

Why should you  have a staple white shirt in your closet? Isn't it predictable? Or just the standard? Well let me tell you why. If you work, intern, or go to school, chances are you come across days where you have to dress for business or want to wear a more polished look. A tailored white shirt is versatile and can be worn in many different occasions. And rather than thinking of a white shirt as predictable, think of it as dependable. White goes with pretty much everything- navy, jean, dark green, etc. It's versatility and dependability make a white shirt a staple in your closet.

I've found that over the years my wardrobe has diversified in textures, sifted through fabrics, and been enriched with varying lengths. With the chiffon, silk, knits, cardigans, and sweaters, a white shirt actually stands out in my wardrobe. Its brings a clean, structured essence to an everyday look.

A New Take on Layering

Beautiful blue skies, sunshine, 80 degrees? Is it actually fall? A year ago, I would be wearing dark jeans, a knit sweater, maybe a scarf, and of course a new fall coat. This year is a little different. I've still got that cozy knit sweater, but I'm layering in a much different way.

I'm embracing this eternal summer we call fall in Southern California with a new take on layering. I've traded my blue jeans for a blue and white polka dotted romper. I've added a light knit cream sweater that's perfect for the cooler nights of fall. Layering is all about contrasting and complementing fabrics, graphics, and textures. Though my layers are a lot lighter, I'm still contrasting the softness of the sweater with a bold polka dotted print. If you're living in a warmer place like me this fall, try pairing your very own knit with your own bold print of choice. Prints like polka dots are timeless. Tribal, chevron, and floral prints would also be fun to work with.I finished off the look with my favorite new chunky heels and my vintage Dooney & Bourke purse.

Outfit details:
Blue and White Polka Dotted Romper - Zara
Cream Sweater - Free People
Heels - Dolce Vita from Nordstrom Rack
Purse - Dooney & Bourke

Emma

The San Clemente Beach Scene

Hello Southern California,
Hello sunshine, sand, and surf. Here's to a new chapter of my life and Emma's #California Edition.
I’m far from my familiar dark green pants, tall black boots, and layers of jackets and sweaters. Moving over 1100 miles away from Seattle to a beach city has brought me embrace a sunnier scene.

So for my first ever #california shoot, I’m sharing with you: The San Clemente Beach Scene. San Clemente has become one of my favorite spots to run and hangout in SoCal. I thought it would be the perfect place to give you a glimpse of my life in the OC.
